How to Create and Set Up an Instagram Business Account

Instagram is a great way to showcase your practice, connect with your community, and share engaging content with current and potential patients.

Whether you’re brand new to Instagram or already have a personal account, this guide will walk you through setting up an Instagram Business account and connecting it to your Facebook business Page.

Let’s get started!

Part 1: Create an Instagram Account

Already have an Instagram account? You can skip ahead to Part 2.

Step 1: Download the Instagram App

1. Open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).
2. Search for Instagram.
3. Download and install the app.
4. Open Instagram and select Create New Account or Sign Up.

Step 2: Sign Up

1. Enter your email address or mobile phone number.
2. Follow the prompts to verify your information.
3. Create a secure password.
4. Complete the remaining account setup prompts.

Tip: We recommend using a practice-managed email address rather than an employee’s personal email. This makes it easier to maintain access to your business account as your team changes.

Step 3: Choose Your Username

Your username is how people will find and identify your practice on Instagram.

Choose a username that closely matches your practice name and is easy to remember.

For example, if your practice is called *Bright Smile Dental*, you might choose @brightsmiledental.

If your preferred username is already taken, consider adding your city or location.

Step 4: Complete Your Initial Profile

Add your practice name and a recognizable profile photo, such as your logo.

You can complete additional business details after switching to a professional account.

Congratulations! You’ve created your Instagram account.

Now let’s turn it into a Business account so you can access additional features designed for businesses.

Part 2: Switch to an Instagram Business Account

Already have an Instagram Business account? Skip ahead to Part 3.

An Instagram Business account gives your practice access to helpful features, including performance insights, business contact options, and tools for managing your social media presence.

Good to Know: If you already have a personal Instagram account for your practice, you don’t need to create a new one. You can switch your existing account to a Business account while keeping your posts and followers.

Step 1: Open Your Instagram Settings

1. Open the Instagram app.
2. Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
3. Tap the three horizontal lines (☰) in the upper-right corner to open the menu.
4. Look for Account Type and Tools under your settings.

Step 2: Switch to a Professional Account

1. Tap Switch to Professional Account.
2. Follow the prompts to get started.
3. Select a category that best describes your practice, such as Chiropractor, Dentist, or another relevant healthcare category.
4. Tap Done or Continue, depending on the options displayed.

Step 3: Choose Business

Instagram offers two types of professional accounts: Creator and Business.

Select Business for your practice, then follow the prompts to complete the switch.

A Business account is generally the best choice for practices looking to promote their services and manage their online presence.

Step 4: Add Your Business Information

Make it easy for patients to learn about and contact your practice.

Review and update your profile with:

– Profile Photo: Your practice logo or another recognizable image.
– Bio: A short, welcoming description of your practice.
– Website: A link to your practice website.
– Contact Information: Your business email, phone number, and address, where appropriate.
– Business Category: The category that best represents your services.

Tip: Keep your practice name and contact information consistent with your website and other online listings.

Step 5: Review Your Profile

Take a moment to view your Instagram profile as a visitor would.

Make sure your logo is clear, your contact information is accurate, and your bio gives visitors a welcoming introduction to your practice.

You’re all set! Your Instagram Business account is ready.

Part 3: Connect Instagram to Your Facebook Business Page

To prepare your Instagram Business account for Get Social, you’ll need to link it to your practice’s Facebook business Page.

2. Sign in using the Facebook account that has permission to manage your practice’s business Page.
3. Click your profile picture in the upper-right corner.

Important: You must have the appropriate Facebook Page access to connect Instagram. If you don’t see your practice’s Page or can’t manage its settings, you may need additional permissions.

Step 2: Open Your Page Settings

1. While using Facebook as your practice’s Page, click the Page’s profile picture.
2. Select Settings & Privacy, then Settings.

2. Follow the prompts to sign in to your practice’s Instagram account.
3. Review and approve any requested permissions.
4. Complete the connection process.
